Fox

She had a feeling in her gut. Something was not right. Out of apprehension, she went to the tree where they had promised to meet before it was time. She hid on top of the tree as she heard footsteps along the gravelly path. He was there, with a bulky bag slung around his neck. He came to the tree and started to dig. As she watched him dig her grave, she made not a sound. Later, the girl was seen with her wits all missing. She repeated over and over again,

The bough did bend,
the bough did break,
I saw the hole the fox did make.

We swore to love,
we swore to marry,
I saw the blade the fox did carry.
